Celebration of Purpose
We Are Not Here by Chance. God Has Given us Purpose.
Determining God’s purpose for our church and our lives has become of significant importance to the Christian community. Many churches have undertaken a systematic study to better understand this all important issue. We want to know that we are in keeping with God’s plans. As a result, minds and hearts are more aware of God’s great love for us beginning before we were born, then calling us to be His children and further guiding us the rest of our lives. While we need to acknowledge God isn’t finished with us yet, it is appropriate to take the opportunity to express our joy for what he has taught us and how far He has brought us.
Simply put, we are not here on earth by chance. We exist because God has a purpose for every person. Even before we were born, God had a plan for our lives and formed us in the womb to serve Him. We are privileged to be a part of God’s plan to reach the world for Jesus Christ. God’s purpose for his children
includes developing their character to be more like Christ. God is preparing us for our eternal life with Him. As we spend our lives in service to Him, he challenges us with situations that teach us to depend more on Him and less on ourselves. Perhaps, to our surprise, we learn that the tragedies and sufferings in our lives can be the instruments God uses to make us more dependent upon Him.
Can we know God’s purpose for us? It is not logical to believe that God would keep it a secret. He shows us in many ways His plan – through His word, our prayers, observations from fellow Christians and life’s circumstances. We need to believe He will instruct us, teach and guide us – if we are listening.
Pursuing God’s purpose for our lives is the most rewarding endeavor we can undertake. It will never be dull, monotonous or lacking in challenge. But the effort of seeking the ultimate reward from the lips of Jesus Christ “Well done, good and faithful servant” will bring us everlasting joy.
